Our Chapel,
which was built in 1845, is to be reordered to provide
a more
flexible space to meet the purposes of the church in the twenty first century
and to offer
an attractive venue for community groups.
What we
propose will:
Ø
clear the pews from the ground floor and
replace them with chairs permitting various
arrangements according to intended use.
Ø
remove the pulpit structure and organ
creating a usable floor area visible from all the seats (prime focus area).
Ø
create a reconfigurable stage available
for use in the prime focus area or elsewhere on the floor offering alternative
seating/staging opportunities
Ø
double the reception area in the foyer
with provision for coats and displays
Ø
improve wheelchair and mobility access
Ø
renew and update audio-visual and lighting systems; a sound loop for hearing
aids is already provided and the acoustics of the building are excellent
Ground floor seating
capacity will be between 60 and 100 depending on the layout used and the type
of event. The existing
balcony will remain.
At the rear of
the Chapel is the adjoining Hall built in 1992 which has a modern kitchen,
toilets and meeting rooms.
This
will be a space
which
has the character of an old building
with
the furnishings and facilities of a new one
